Habitat Restoration
The Elms is strongly involved in habitat restoration projects both on the Elms property and at area schools. Much of the Habitat restoration projects at Elms are done by visiting 7th graders as part of their service learning. Below you will see a variety of activities they did for the benefit of wildlife.

As part of their service learning, students salvaged beach grasses that were buried in the sand or were getting washed away during recent severe storm events.

Planting and Weeding in Restoration Area A
Student cleared this section of the beach of phragmites and planted native grasses (see the phragmites in the background of this picture). Students roped off this area to keep people from walking on the recently planted native grasses.

Elms Students Maintain Front Gate Garden
Seventh grade students help maintain the garden at the front gate. They weeded and mulched the area. In addition, students help with the conversion of a mix of native and non-native plants to a garden of only natives.
