Overnight Programs At Elms
The overnight program emphasizes group cooperation and a spirit of adventure and exploration throughout two days and one night. Three formal lessons, age appropriate and tied to the State Curriculum are led by the Elms staff. The classroom teacher has the opportunity to present a lesson of her/his own as well.
Schedule permitting, overnight trips are available to all St. Mary's County Schools (public, parochial, home-school groups), grades 4-12.

High School Students at Elms
High school students also visit the Elms. Their activities vary depending on their teacher's goals. Students might go seining, do water quality testing, or even study plankton.

Seventh grade students become citizen scientists when visiting the Elms by finding caterpillars of butterflies and moths. Some of these caterpillars like the beautiful ones (found at Elms) in pictures below are reported to this sight: http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/
By doing this, they contribute to the study of butterflies and moths.
You might want to check it out: it is a great resource for identifying the neat things you find in your own back yard.
