Programs Extend Into The Comunity
The Elms reaches into the community in many capacities. Our outreach efforts help to educate the community about our native wildlife, environmental practices and our programs at Elms. We hold native plant sales in the community, share our knowledge and happenings on our Elms website and the Elms Environmental Education Facebook Page, attend the Earth Day Celebration in Leonardtown MD, and contribute to displays at the St. Mary's county Fair...

Annual Native Plant Sales
At the end of the school year and mid year (in the fall), the Elms will attempt to sell some of its excess stock. It is a great time for the general public to pick up some native plants to grow in their own yards. This is also an opportunity for community members to learn about the importance of native plants to our local wildlife and for butterfly lovers to learn more about host plants.

Earth Day 2013
The Elms Environmental Education Center was happy to attend the Earth Day Celebration again. Leonardtown Middle School and Leonardtown High School students volunteer at the Elms table in Leonardtown for Earth Day in April 2013. They showed off some native critters and talked about them to children and their parents (and sometimes their grandparents) for several hours that afternoon.

The Elms Organizes Trash Pick Up
Our trash pick up events go beyond the borders of the Elms property. We also extend our efforts into our neighboring property, Elms Beach Park, managed by St. Mary's County Parks and Recreation.

The Elms participates in the Leadership Southern Maryland Annual Education Town Hall Meeting.
Information on programs and native plants at the Elms is presented. This has proven to be a good forum to increase the understanding of community leaders of the importance of using native plants in landscaping.

Elms Partners with St. Mary's County Garden Club (SMCGC) for Fair Exhibits (an annual event)
The Elms contributes to St. Mary's County Fair displays. The Fair is located at the St. Mary's County Fairgrounds. Elms prepares educational displays on native plants, habitats at the Elms, birds, and other environmental topics. We loan native plants, bird nests and related items to the Master Gardeners who set up exhibits at the fair.
