Energy Conservation
We are able to conserve energy by using outdoor classrooms, natural light and no air conditioning.
We Utilize Natural Light in Classrooms When Possible
The Elms Environmental Education Center is fortunate to have many windows in every classroom.

Outdoor Classrooms
Having classes meet outside reduces the need for turning on lights. The sun does the job for free.

Turning off Lights and Other Electric Devices
To conserve energy, we make a point to turn off the lights (when using) and the projector (if using) when leaving the room.

Heating
Although budget limits do not allow us to upgrade our heating system to an energy-efficient system, we use our baseboard heaters only in rooms that we are using or that have plumbing pipes that could freeze.
